Chapter 530: Chapter 530: Persuading Mrs. Mamet to Divorce
After the banquet officially began, no one paid any attention to the Campbell Family.
Hearing the surrounding ridicule, Nidya Hughes almost crushed her teeth, thinking that once Anna became Mrs. Mamet, she would make everyone apologize to her on their knees!
The Flack family had already arranged rooms for their guests to rest in, and everyone returned to their rooms to rest after nightfall.
Nidya Hughes quickly sent someone to call Xaviera Evans who, after a long while, came over drowsily.
“Why are you so slow! Can’t you hurry up?” Nidya Hughes said angrily.
Xaviera Evans replied leisurely, “Mrs. Campbell, I was asleep, okay? I also need to change my clothes.”
“What do you need to change your clothes for when you’re coming to see us? Just come!”
Xaviera was helpless, “Please, it’s so late, and Caleb and I were asleep. I’m wearing pajamas, so of course, I need to change out of them. Or do you think I should just come as soon as you call, even if I’m still in my pajamas?”
Nidya Hughes couldn’t refute her and just clenched her teeth, “How shameless can you be! You came to the banquet with us, but you don’t rest with us, you ran off to sleep with Mr. Caleb Mamet!”
Hearing this, Xaviera couldn’t help but laugh.
“Caleb is my husband, so what’s wrong with us sleeping together? Do Mrs. Campbell and Mr. Campbell not sleep together? You have separate beds?”
Nidya Hughes’ mouth twitched slightly, “What kind of nonsense is this? Look at you, with that shameless appearance, you’re really not fit for high society!”
Xaviera snorted, “Shameless? Caleb and I are legally married, the certificate is issued, and it’s shameless for us to sleep together? What about you?”
“Sister, don’t make mom angry. She just wants what’s best for you.” Anna Campbell spoke gently, “You secretly went to sleep with Mr. Caleb Mamet without telling us, and mom was waiting for you, worried that you were in danger!”
Nidya was suppressing her anger since she couldn’t openly confront Xaviera for the moment. After all, in order to elevate Anna, they had to go through Xaviera.
Her tone softened a bit, “Xaviera, mom just wants what’s best for you, don’t be so stubborn.”
Xaviera sat down, poured herself a cup of coffee, took a sip, and leisurely asked, “So what?”
“As your biological mother, why would I want to harm you? So I have some words in my heart that I want to share with you.”
Xaviera sneered inwardly – Nidya sure had a thick skin to claim she was her true mother.
Nidya continued gently, “Caleb has money and power, and he’s incredibly good-looking. His requirements for partners must be high, and there are plenty of women who want to marry him. Why did he choose you?”
“I don’t know what methods you used to make Caleb agree to marry you, but a loveless marriage cannot last. You grew up in the countryside, with no education or manners, let alone being a well-bred lady. How can you be worthy of such a man?”
“I think Caleb might have just married you for the novelty of it, but when you become old or a more beautiful woman appears by his side, you’ll be abandoned. It’s better to divorce Caleb sooner than later.”
Outside the door, Steve Price shivered as he felt a wave of cold passing from behind him.
Caleb Mamet stood behind him, radiating an icy murderous aura.
Xaviera sipped some more coffee, moistening her throat, and nodded deeply, “Mrs. Campbell, what you said does make some sense. I could divorce him, but you’ll have to ask if Caleb agrees. After all, divorce is not a small matter, and who will replace me as Mrs. Mamet once we divorce?”
Nidya’s face immediately lit up with joy, “You don’t have to worry about that. As long as you initiate the divorce, Caleb, as a proud man as he is, probably won’t try to keep you.”
Once Xaviera lost Caleb’s protection, she would be nothing more than a wild girl, how could she compete with Anna then!
“But Mrs. Campbell, why should I divorce him?”
Xaviera slowly raised her eyes, her gaze filled with coldness, “You said Caleb is excellent, and I think my husband is very excellent as well. He’s rich, willing to spend money on me, can support me, and most importantly, he’s handsome. Why would I want to divorce him?”
