Chapter 149: So That Is How It Is

He took the teacup and placed it in his hands, feeling the temperature of the tea.
Chu Zhao was still giggling and joking around with him, saying his taste was more distinct now. Su Bai just gently shook his head, thinking he should just directly knock him out and carry him off. Regardless of the outcome, at least Chu Zhao would not be put in any danger.
Seeing this fella’s sunny outlook, he really was asking for a beating. His own housekeeper was dead and his girlfriend was a zombie. He really had some capability. No matter how unlucky someone was, they would face much difficulty in assembling this gleeful, fighting the landlord[1] group.
Su Bai stood up and pretended to walk around to check out the renovations of Chu Zhao’s home and moved over to Chu Zhao’s back. When he lifted his hand, his heart started to throb and feel flustered. This was an obscure feeling; it was more like an obscure reminder that things would be more controversial if he knocked out Chu Zhao.
Chu Zhao currently was like a link connecting all the clues and details that were necessary in the story. By protecting him and keeping him away from this case, the difficulty in completing this reality task would greatly increase, which would increase his own difficulty.
Was this some sort of reminder?
A reminder from Dreadful Radio to its audience who helped it complete the reality task?
Su Bai revealed a smile; he was overwhelmed by the favor from the superior. But, who asked him to be a psychopath?
The reason why Chu Zhao joined the Murder Club at the beginning was mostly because of Su Bai. He knew his mental condition and was willing to join this club with his identity as a police officer. Gu Fan joined only because of Aroma. Even though Chu Zhao’s reason at that time was because he hated his identity as a police officer, Su Bai knew it was only an excuse. No matter how much he hated his police identity, it wasn’t to the extent of murdering people for satisfaction.
“BANG!”
Su Bai chopped Chu Zhao’s neck, Chu Zhao immediately fainted.
Su Bai carried Chu Zhao on his shoulder. He did not mention anything, did not explain anything and did as he planned. He wanted to arrange a good place for Chu Zhao; the best place should be his own home. He planned to fetch Lucky and the little fella home and borrow Lucky’s strength to protect Chu Zhao.
Lucky at that time would eliminate all surrounding danger to protect the little fella. Su Bai normally couldn’t order around the pet that Litchi left behind.
A crisp sound suddenly resounded from the kitchen. The housekeeper walked out and saw Su Bai carrying Chu Zhao. The housekeeper did not express any shock and just smiled as she asked:
“Where are you going?”
Su Bai did not explain and he was too lazy to explain. He opened the door and left the house.
A whole house full of things which neither human nor ghost!
Chu Zhao’s car was parked downstairs, and the car keys were still on him. Su Bai took the car keys and placed Chu Zhao in the passenger seat and immediately drove out of that district.
Xiao Hui was standing behind the room window and the housekeeper was standing behind the kitchen window.
Both women were smiling and saw this scene unsympathetically.
Su Bai saw this scene from the side mirror and revealed a smile. He even stretched his hand out of the window and waved, indicating goodbye.
The car reached the hotel lobby half an hour later. Su Bai went in alone to fetch the little fella and Lucky. When Lucky entered the car and saw a fainted man inside, it suddenly understood something, and all its fur stood up and it bared its fangs at Su Bai in anger. It was angry because Su Bai actually brought this man who had an unknown aura together with the little fella; this was inviting a disaster.
Su Bai continued driving. Seeing Lucky acting like this, he sighed and clapped the steering wheel.
“He is my brother who I grew up together with; this is my son. I won’t give up on any of them. Lucky, you can treat it like I’m making use of you this time. If there is a chance in the future, I will make it up to you, alright?”
Lucky shook its head, still enraged. The cat’s eyes brought a hint of disdain.
It was obviously not satisfied with Su Bai who dared to make use of it without consulting it first. Most importantly, Lucky was able to tell that Chu Zhao currently was a problematic and unlucky person. Letting him stay beside the little fella was something irresponsible.
Seeing this glance, the flames in Su Bai’s heart ignited. He held the steering wheel with one hand and pointed at Lucky with the other as he lashed out:
“Litchi is gone, you are now mingling with me. Do you god damn believe that once you leave me, not to mention the heavenly will, Dreadful Radio might issue a reality task to kill you. Don’t act like a lord in front of me, you are just an abandoned stray cat!
Other than that, he is my son, not yours. You can ask him if he wants to follow me or you!
If you’re not joining, you can get down from the car and get lost for your daddy!”
Su Bai opened the rear window, and the wind blew in, bringing a hot humid air.
Lucky was stunned. It never imagined Su Bai would talk to itself like this. During normal days, even if it showed such an aloof character, Su Bai would try his best to accommodate it. Today, Su Bai was like a barrel of gunpowder, exploding at a single spark.
The little fella was also startled by Su Bai’s expression and tone; he reached out and pulled the kitty’s tail.
Actually, you couldn’t blame Su Bai. He and Chu Zhao really had a good relationship. Knocking him out and then letting him be and placing him somewhere else was really not safe. Other than that, Su Bai messed up the clues of the reality task. What he would be facing next was a very messy and complicated situation. Even the cat was putting on airs at this moment; how could he be in a good mood?
Lucky did not choose to jump out the window in the end and just quietly lied down.
It’s gaze towards the little fella contained a trace of helplessness and pampering.
After reaching home, Su Bai tied Chu Zhao to a chair and carried the little fella into his own bedroom. Lucky just followed along without saying a word.
Su Bai held the little fella’s hand, placed it on his lips and kissed. The little fella giggled; he really enjoyed Su Bai’s affectionate gestures.
“Good boy, this time, your dad got you involved in messy business. It’s my bad, but don’t worry. No matter what you face in the future, I will be by your side. The incident where we had to bring you to the demon cave will no longer occur, even if I were to die.”
Su Bai stroked the little fella’s head. He then walked out of the room and got into the car.
Both the Hellfire Shotguns were placed on the passenger seat. Su Bai took out the folder; on it were places he had marked. The one Su Bai found most suspicious was Chu Zhao’s father. Chu Zhao’s father was the person in charge of handling this case. Xiao Hui mentioned that the item of trammel was what Wang Xue needed. Su Bai guessed that that item of trammel might be the true cause of Wang Xue’s death; it might possibly be thallium.
Wang Xue died because of this item, even though she succeeded in discharging all the thallium in her body, it couldn’t prevent her death from the damage caused to her body.
It was a very high possibility that thallium was Wang Xue’s item of fetter. Even if Chu Zhao’s father did receive pressure from the higher-ups, causing this case to be covered up and leaving it unsettled, based on Chu Zhao’s father’s character, he should still have something in his hands.
Within the few families of seniors, Gu Fan’s parents specialized in scientific research, Aroma’s parents were standard red nobility[2] but Chu Zhao’s family, his grandfather and father, relied on themselves and slowly climbed up. These types of people usually left themselves some room to maneuver.
Chu Zhao’s father was resting in his residence in Suzhou recently. Chu Zhao had mentioned it when the were dining together. His father had some complications with his health but was holding on because of the family. This was why Chu Zhao was willing to accept the promotion. He wasn’t so unreasonable even though he repelled the police profession due to his father’s perseverance.
On the highway, the distance from Shanghai to Suzhou wasn’t very far.
Su Bai actually started to regret a little. He should have called someone to assist, like the monk did since this was allowed by Dreadful Radio. However, there wasn’t any difference with or without an assistant. He still didn’t know any suitable audience to help in this task. Besides, he changed the game by knocking out Chu Zhao. If his partner was not stupid and knew the meaning of it, they would definitely turn hostile.
The difficulty and workload were too heavy for a single person to handle. Su Bai’s current attitude was to play it by ear.
Su Bai stopped at a rest area by the highway to have some food and drinks. Not long after, he continued on with his journey. Suddenly, he realized he was being tailed by a van.
Being followed was actually normal on the highway as many people were going in the same direction. However, there was once when Su Bai was forced to slow down because the car in front suddenly switched lanes; that van had also purposely slowed down before the car switched lanes and continued to tail Su Bai.
Su Bai straightforwardly turn on his double signal and stopped his car by the side of the road.
He opened the car door and got down. Su Bai was wondering: was this the story world or the real world? Why would so many strange things occur in the real world when investigating a case?
The van stopped behind Su Bai, but nobody came down. The was a man wearing a mask in the van. It was a mask of a clown. At that moment, his ice-cold pupils were staring at Su Bai.
The clown did a throat slitting gesture at Su Bai obviously threatening him.
In response, Su Bai lifted up his Hellfire Shotgun.
“BANG!”
And pulled the trigger.
The clown was confused. He had never imagined Su Bai to be so direct. The van’s windscreen shattered and the top half of the clown’s body turned into meat paste.
Su Bai walked over and opened the door. Other than the clown, there wasn’t anyone else, just a hand at the seat’s corner moving nonstop.
Su Bai’s gaze show a hint of realization. He felt that he finally understood why incidences the defied common sense kept occurring.
“This is the real world. It is reasonable to say that things should not be this exaggerated…
Unless…”
