Chapter 629: 628 is afraid she will get hurt
“Xiuchen, really?”
Wen Ran looked up at Mo Xiuchen in surprise.
Upon receiving her gaze, a hint of confusion flashed in Mo Xiuchen’s eyes, and he furrowed his eyebrows, trying to recall the time he stated in the telephone conversation to Gu Kai and Wen Jin last night, and asked them: “Didn’t I tell you that it was at eleven o’clock?”
Gu Kai and Wen Jin exchanged glances, thinking that Mo Xiuchen was planning to evade responsibility.
Just as Gu Kai was about to speak, Mo Xiuchen frowned as though he understood something. His words seemed apologetic, but his face showed no sign of regret: “I seem to really have remembered wrongly. Initially, I thought of booking that flight. But then I was worried that it’s too early and that Ranran might not be able to get up. So, I changed it to the next flight.”
Wen Jin and Gu Kai had a twitch at the corner of their mouths.
As they left the airport and were discussing which restaurant to go for lunch, Bai Xiaoxiao’s mother walked over from a distance.
“Xiaoxiao, why has Aunt Qiao come?”
Wen Ran was the first to spot Mother Bai walking through the crowd. She was wearing a light summer dress, looking elegant and noble. Their family’s driver was also accompanying her.
Bai Xiaoxiao was also startled. Last night while she was making a call to home, she specifically told her family members not to come to pick her up at the airport. She didn’t expect her mother to come anyway.
Panic flaring, she quickly withdrew her hand from Luo Haofeng and hastened a few steps forward. She warmly grabbed her mother’s arm and asked with a wide smile on her face. “Mom, why did you come to pick me up personally? I told you I was coming with Ranran, there was no need for you to come over here.”
Mother Bai glared at her coldly, a look of displeasure on her face. She was clearly angered by the sight of Bai Xiaoxiao holding hands with Luo Haofeng. She glanced at Luo Haofeng who was a few steps away, and then withdrew her gaze. Her sharp eyes scanned Bai Xiaoxiao, as if checking for any signs or clues on her.
Seeing Mother Bai looking at her in such a way, Bai Xiaoxiao’s face fluctuated, fearing that her mom would cause trouble for Luo Haofeng here. She quickly said, “Mom, I am so hungry. Did you make something delicious for me? Let’s go home and eat.”
While speaking, she began pulling her mother in the direction where they had just come from.
“All you think about is eating. Since you have a boyfriend now, why are you afraid of introducing him to me?”
Mother Bai glared at Bai Xiaoxiao resentfully. She clearly knew that Xiaoxiao was afraid of her causing trouble for Luo Haofeng. Seeing how protective Bai Xiaoxiao was of Luo Haofeng, she felt a complex mix of emotions.
Bai Xiaoxiao’s worries were actually unnecessary. Although she did not grant Bai Xiaoxiao permission to date Luo Haofeng, she was not the kind of woman without manners either. She definitely wouldn’t embarrass Luo Haofeng in front of so many people.
The reason Mother Bai came to fetch Xiaoxiao was to prevent her from getting too close with Luo Haofeng. Previously when Xiaoxiao was in City A, she didn’t heed her advice. Now that she had returned, as her mother, she would be able to exercise more control over her.
Seeing Mother Bai and Bai Xiaoxiao walk further away, Mo Xiuchen turned to look at Luo Haofeng who was next to him. He appeared slightly stern, seemingly lost in thought. “Ah Feng, let’s go.”
“Yeah!”
Luo Haofeng nodded, putting away the emotions stirred in his heart, and managing to give a forced smile.
Wen Ran pursed her lips and said quietly, “Aunt Qiao loves Xiaoxiao too much and is afraid that she will get hurt.”
“I know. It was my fault for being so reckless in the past.” The smile at the corner of Luo Haofeng’s mouth held a hint of self-mockery. He couldn’t blame Mother Bai. Which mother wouldn’t want to protect her daughter?
Looking at Mo Xiuchen and Wen Ran, if it hadn’t been for the accident that had befallen the Wen Family, with both Mr and Mrs Wen Hongrui gone and Wen Jin in a coma, Mo Xiuchen wouldn’t have been able to marry her so easily and effortlessly.
Mo Xiuchen’s eyes narrowed slightly, as if discerning Luo Haofeng’s thoughts, his grip on Wen Ran tightened. With a quick glance at Gu Kai and the others, he took Wen Ran and left.
They went to the Yi Pin Xuan Pavilion. Gu Kai had already booked a private room before coming to the airport.
The waiters served the dishes swiftly. Seeing the table strewn with delicious food emitting tempting aroma, Wen Ran finally felt her hunger. Gu Kai asked the waiter to bring some wine, which he had stored in his wine cellar before.
“Ranran, did you enjoy yourself in City A?”
Wen Jin sat to the left of Wen Ran and to her right was Mo Xiuchen. Next to Mo Xiuchen was Gu Kai.
At this moment, Gu Kai poured himself a drink, talking to Mo Xiuchen, but smiled at Wen Ran.
She seemed to have gained a little weight compared to before her trip abroad. Unlike those days when she was so thin that her chin was pointed. Her small face which was not much bigger than a palm tugged at one’s heartstrings.
Wen Ran nodded with a smile, “Bro, I had a lot of fun in City A. Has the pharmaceutical factory been busy lately? You seem to have lost weight!”
As she said those words, the smile disappeared from the corner of her eye. Her brows furrowed slightly out of concern for her brother.
“Have I lost weight? Even I didn’t notice. Where did you see that?” Wen Jin reached up to touch his cheek, his smile carrying a hint of indulgence: “Since you are so worried about me, why don’t you come back to work and help me share some of the workload?”
“Is it really busy right now?”
A look of concern crossed Wen Ran’s face, her gaze focused on Wen Jin.
She did not agree immediately. It wasn’t because she was not willing to help, but because she felt that Xiuchen would likely not agree to her going back to work. Although the virus in her body had been cleared, her body still needed some time to recuperate. Given how considerate Mo Xiuchen was towards her, he definitely wished for her to have a good rest.
To her surprise, Mo Xiuchen took the initiative to agree to Wen Jin’s suggestion this time.
Although he was engaged in conversation with Gu Kai, he partly focused on Wen Ran’s conversation with Wen Jin.
“Ranran, since it’s really busy at the factory, why don’t you go back and help your brother?”
Wen Ran turned her head in surprise, meeting Mo Xiuchen’s gentle and smiling eyes. She smiled back at him, not questioning his reasons, and nodded her head saying, “Okay, since I’m free anyway, I’ll go to the pharmaceutical factory to help my brother.”
“That’s settled then. Ranran, you should return to work tomorrow, before certain people change their minds.” Wen Jin hinted. Considering how much Mo Xiuchen cared for and indulged Wen Ran, it was likely that he might reconsider, and not let her go to work.
“Xiuchen, you’ve finally left your position at the MS Group and have the time to accompany Ranran. Now why are you letting her go to work at the pharmaceutical factory?”
Gu Kai teased, he had been observing Mo Xiuchen carefully ever since they left the airport. He was unsure if there really wasn’t anything wrong, or Mo Xiuchen was just good at hiding it because he didn’t detect any abnormalities. His complexion too seemed normal. Gu Kai surmised that perhaps due to the fact that Xiuchen had been consuming traditional Chinese medicine for several years and regularly exercised, even if the virus that had harmed Wen Ran was transferred to his body, it wouldn’t have an immediate effect on him.
Mo Xiuchen smiled faintly, his eyes were filled with warmth as he looked at Wen Ran, “I’m afraid that Ranran will get tired of seeing me 24 hours a day. Besides, just now, she was concerned that her brother was losing weight from managing the company all by himself. If I were to object to her plans, I would seem rather petty.”
He spoke lightly, his smile remain unchanged, yet Gu Kai felt that there was another motive behind Mo Xiuchen’s actions.
