Chapter 356: Chapter 356: Sparks
“I say, are you here to participate in the Fishing Competition as well?”
The youth stopped Qin Lang, who was preparing to leave, and bluntly started the conversation.
“Yes, what about it?” Qin Lang nodded, looking curiously at the newcomer.
He had noticed the apparent grandfather-grandson pair among the contestants earlier, and the one who approached him now was the grandson.
“My name is Ren Feng,” the youth introduced himself, then examined Qin Lang up and down, “I didn’t expect a contestant my age. Since that’s the case, do you want to have a match?”
“Aren’t we already participating in the Fishing Competition?” Qin Lang couldn’t understand Ren Feng’s intentions right away.
“No, no, no, I mean a competition between the two of us, with the same rules as the Fishing Competition, but only the two of us compete,” Ren Feng clarified, shaking his head.
“I see whatyou mean,” Qin Lang nodded in understanding. But then he shifted his tone, “why would I compete with you though?”
“This…” Ren Feng momentarily lost for words. He thought that by suggesting a match, Qin Lang would immediately accept without hesitation. He didn’t expect Qin Lang to deviate from the script.
Biting his teeth, Ren Feng explained, “This is a contest between the youngest generation’s top fishermen, do you dare?”
Qin Lang took a glance at Ren Feng and silently shook his head.
If Zhao Chen was here, he probably would have promptly proposed a wager, right?
For some reason, he suddenly missed his buddies back in Tianhua State.
Since the other party didn’t understand, Qin Lang planned to be more straightforward, “What advantage would I get if I win?”
“Benefit?” Ren Feng was taken aback at first, and then his gaze towards Qin Lang changed slightly.
So it turns out this guy wasn’t planning to reject him, but was looking for a wager!
Having caught onto this, Ren Feng pondered for a moment, then reluctantly said, “How about this, whoever loses pays the winner ten thousand!”
“Okay.” Qin Lang nodded slightly.
Now that there was a wager, the match suddenly became more interesting.
“To meet the requirements, participants in the competition can fish at any location in Falling Cloud Lake. Since we’re competing, we can’t be too far apart, at least within visual range.” Ren Feng added, “Fifty meters apart, okay?”
“No problem.” Qin Lang didn’t mind.
The two parties were fifty meters apart, each fishing without interfering with each other, but they could see each other’s situation.
Admittedly, Qin Lang, who was initially planning to relax and kill time by fishing, suddenly felt a bit of fighting spirit with Ren Feng’s invitation to battle.
Those also spurred by fighting spirit were Dan Bao and Spicy who were by Qin Lang’s side. They looked at each other and nodded simultaneously.
Although Food Spirits couldn’t use their Combat Skills in this competition, they weren’t sure how they could help…
“Then it’s a deal!” Ren Feng promptly concluded the agreement, then ran to his grandfather not far away, as if reporting to him their conversation.
Having listened to Ren Feng’s account, the old man smiled and nodded at Qin Lang. Soon, Ren Feng was running over to Qin Lang with his own fishing gear.
“Now, we can choose our spots.”
“Then I’ll choose this spot.”
Qin Lang had previously eyed a good fishing spot. Some people were lingering around it earlier, but it was empty now.
“In that case, I’ll choose here!” Ren Feng glanced at Qin Lang’s position, quickly picked a spot about thirty meters away from Qin Lang, set up his stool, and sat down.
Time ticked away, with the Fishing Competition getting closer and closer to starting. Contestants arrived one after another and chose their respective fishing spots.
Falling Cloud Lake was vast, due to which the fishermen were quite spaced out, ensuring that they do not interfere with one another.
So, there was no one else between Qin Lang and Ren Feng.
Soon, with the start of the competition announced in the earpieces distributed to everyone, all the fishermen made the same motion simultaneously.
Casting hooks!
The fish hooks, carrying the fishing line, drew beautiful parabolas in the air before neatly landing far in the water, hardly splashing much.
The floats tied to the fishing line stabilized on the lake’s surface, marking the begin of fishing. Now, it was time for the contestants to show their skills.
Qin Lang, who had casually dug up a few earthworms from the lakeside as bait, leaned idly on his folding stool, gazing at the float on the lake, letting his thoughts wander.
However, he couldn’t relax for long.
Soon, the host’s excited voice came through in his earpiece, “Congratulations to contestant Wei Yueliang for being the first one to catch a Grass Carp!”
Qin Lang: “…”
Considering that loudspeakers might scare off the fish in the lake, the competition used earpieces.
But the sound coming through the earpieces was clearer than that of a loudspeaker, making it quite difficult to ignore.
The contestant named Wei Yueliang was just the beginning. Soon the host, with a passionate voice, was announcing the achievement of one contestant after another, successfully catching fish.
Looking at the still float, Qin Lang, whose mind was calm as water, suddenly felt a bit restless.
Where is the fish?!
The only consolation would be that Ren Feng nearby also hadn’t caught anything.
After a while, Qin Lang finally saw the float tremble slightly while feeling a pulling force from underwater.
Here comes a fish!
“Glug!”
“Chaka!”
The two little ones who had been waiting with Qin Lang cheered in unison.
Qin Lang’s eyes flashed with excitement, but soon he calmed his nerves, chose to not immediately pull up the fishing rod, and casually went along with the underwater towing, trying to tire the fish out.
When the fish underwater gradually weakened, he suddenly exerted force and lifted the fishing rod.
A black Carp was dragged out of the lake, flailing its tail fervently on the water’s surface. The splashed water fell back into the lake, creating numerous ripples.
Here comes the fish!
A smile appeared on Qin Lang’s face. Hearing the host in his earpiece announcing his achievement, he suddenly found the noisy sounds to be pleasing to the ears.
He reeled in the line, put the fish in the fish basket, and cast the hook again.
All these fluent steps were done in one go. At the same time, Qin Lang glanced towards Ren Feng who was not far away.
Ren Feng had clearly heard the sound in his earpiece, looked over at Qin Lang, and a sense of competition appeared in his sight.
But just at this moment, his float moved a bit. Ren Feng was first taken aback, then ecstatically pulled up the fish.
It was a Grass Carp, approximately the same size as the Carp that Qin Lang had caught.
With his catch, Ren Feng’s mood instantly balanced out, he shot Qin Lang a “let’s see about that” look.
Qin Lang was speechless. Looking at the float in front of him, he suddenly muttered, “I have a task for the two of you.”
“Glug?”
“Chaka?”
“Fly around Falling Cloud Lake and see how the other contestants are fishing.” There was a hint of confusion in Qin Lang’s eyes, “Doesn’t it seem like they’re all fishing at an absurdly fast pace?”
