Chapter 450: Chapter 450: Assistance
Song Jian stared down the barrels of dozens of weapons trained upon him. Many holding them were so nervous they were shaking, their fingers hovering over the triggers of their crossbows. He hurried to say aloud, “I am but a mere traveler passing by and I mean no harm to anyone.”
To his eyes, all the guardians of this village were labelled in yellow, indicating their relationship with him was currently in a fragile “indifference” stage, which could turn hostile at any wrong move.
The village stood in the way of Song Jian’s journey, posing a challenge. If he wanted to avoid hostilities with the entire village, he’d have to quickly ease the tension between them.
“Oh Lord, captain, I think I saw Paul move! I swear, I didn’t see it wrong!” cried a militiaman holding a long spear suddenly, his face stricken with terror.
All the militia cried out in fear and horror, backing quickly away from the village gates.
“Calm down, men! We came out here to eliminate these disgusting creatures! Consider your families back in the village — your parents, spouses, and children. Do you want to let these monstrous creatures in?”, a burly man wielding a double-handed sword shouted, swing his blade downwards and severing the head of a recently deceased comrade.
“Coal fire oil! Bring the coal fire oil quick and pour it over these monsters! We’ll burn them to ashes!”, ordered the burly man.
From the surrounding forest emerged the growls of more mutated zombies. Shaking and stumbling, they slowly exited the woods and moved towards the village.
At this point, no one was paying Song Jian any more attention.
Just then, Song Jian received a system notification:
‘Kill at least three mutated zombies or village militia to choose your current faction.’
“Faction? There are factions to choose from in this dungeon?” Song Jian checked his reputation page. Having received the title of “The Savior”, his reputation with the human race was well into ‘Revered’.
“Like there’s any other option; it’s not like they’re going to make me join the zombie monster faction”, Song Jian muttered, shaking his head and swinging his sword at a mutated zombie that had crawled out from the burning forest.
Seeing Song Jian’s actions, Falakfu breathed a small sigh of relief. He was the captain of the village militia and was the most powerful among them.
He felt a powerful aura emanating from Song Jian. If Song Jian chose to attack the village at this critical moment, he might completely destroy the village that had survived for decades.
The mutated zombies crawling out from the burning forest were all level 25 elite monsters. Their strength surpassed that of the village militia. Void of intelligence, they were urged by bloodlust to treat any living creature as food. They had no tactical formation and charged at the militia like wild beasts.
With Falakfu’s leadership, although they were fearful of the monsters, the militia stood firm against the waves of monster attacks like a reef against the ocean;
After Song Jian had slaughtered three of the monsters, he received a system prompt:
‘During the in-dungeon faction selection, you have chosen the Human Defense faction. You will gain reputation by killing monsters in the dungeon. This reputation is not transferred out of the dungeon and is only used for transactions with the in-dungeon humans.’
“Brave warrior from afar, we need your help!”
After Song Jian picked the Human faction in the dungeon, he unexpectedly heard Falakfu’s desperate calls for help from afar. Looking at him and the other militia, their names’ color had turned light green.
“Is this for real?” Song Jian murmered, as he swung his sword to cut down the zombies, and rushed towards the village’s gate.
System: You have slain a level 25 in-dungeon mutated zombie (elite). You have gained 1200 combat experience points and 3 dungeon human reputation points.
System: You have slain a level 26 in-dungeon mutated zombie (elite). You have gained 1500 combat experience points and 4 dungeon human reputation points.
With each monstrous kill within the dungeon, Song Jian gained not only combat experience points, but also reputation points with the dungeon humans. However, these reputation points were separate from those he had previously acquired. Every mutated zombie he killed brought him 3 to 4 reputation points with the dungeon humans.
With Song Jian’s assistance, the defense of the village significantly stabilized. In addition to their ferocious attacks, these mutated zombies carried infectious viruses. If one were scratched by them, immediate detox elixir would be required to avoid zombie infection.
Should any of the militia be killed and their bodies not handled within a set amount of time, they would 100% evolve into zombies, reanimate, and become monsters once more.
“Young man, you are a mighty hero. My name is Falakfu. I am the captain of this village’s militia. After this battle, I insist you join me at the Bullhorn Bar for a drink!” Seeing Song Jian effortlessly slay the mutated zombies, Falakfu shouted, his heart filled with both astonishment and respect.
“I look forward to it,” Song Jian replied with a nod, retracting his sword and droplets of zombie blood splashing off the blade. These in-dungeon mutated zombies were not only stronger, but their blood viruses were also significantly more potent compared to the ones outside.
The battle went on for a good half hour. The caltrops by the village gate had all been destroyed by the mutated zombies, and out of the remaining militia, less than ten were still standing. There would be no complete corpses left behind.
However, the number of mutated zombies was diminishing. The battle appeared to be nearing its end in favor of the village defense.
Just as a smile of relief started to form on everyone’s face, a deep roar echoed from the depths of the burning forest, causing their faces to instantly drop. Even Falakfu looked tense.
“Watch out, a big one is coming!” he warned, glancing at Song Jian.
“A big one? The second boss?” taken aback, Song Jian quickly realized what he meant and smiled, thinking, “I thought Falakfu was the second boss of the dungeon. I didn’t expect that after joining the human faction, the system would add a monster boss…”
Boom, boom, boom!
Large trees from the forest were hurled into the air by an astounding force. A mutated zombie with a body emitting a metallic glow and wielding a massive bone club let out an angry roar toward the village gate;
