Chapter 269: Chapter 268: This Dish Can’t Be Made_1
By the time Joel Martin emerged from the room, he realized that only Isandro Jackson was standing at the door.
“Where are the others?”
He looked around but couldn’t see Anna Harris or Heather Gonzalez anywhere.
Could it be that they didn’t want to get up from the comfort of the Presidential Suite?
At that thought, Joel felt a sour pang in his heart.
And in his mind, he cursed Anna Harris as a woman who coveted vanity.
“No, they went down a while ago, I’m the only one waiting here for you,”
Isandro said, reluctantly.
He knew he was just as good-looking as any, but for some reason, Joel was fixated on Anna.
Despite being repeatedly rejected, he was not disheartened; on the contrary, he became even more determined.
As for himself, who had made advances, Joel wouldn’t even give him a proper look.
“What?”
Joel was visibly angry to hear that the others had gone down ahead, leaving just the two of them, but his expression softened considerably afterwards.
“Just wait and see, there’s a good show in store today!”
Theon Falls had already sent people over, and today would be the day Julius Reed would be thoroughly humiliated, providing Joel the satisfaction he craved.
Once Anna left, he could use the influence of the Martin Family to make Julius Reed’s life in Five-river Province unbearable.
To think someone dared to reject him; they must be tired of living!
“Calvin, what kind of show?”
Realizing something significant was about to happen, Isandro felt a secret thrill.
Knowing Joel’s personality, how could he ever let himself be slighted at his own doorstep?
“You’ll find out! I’m going to have that Mr. Julius Reed kneeling before me, begging for mercy!”
The thought of the upcoming scene brought a smile to Joel’s lips: “Let’s go!”
When they both got downstairs, they saw Anna Harris engaged in cheerful conversation with Julius Reed.
Thinking of the changing attitudes between the two before, Joel’s resentment grew deeper.
Yet he remained calm on the surface: “Anna, why didn’t you let me know when you came down?”
Despite the hint of reproach in his voice, it betrayed the closeness of their relationship.
“Didn’t Isandro tell you? Julius called us down to order ahead. I thought everyone must be hungry, and the sooner we order, the sooner we can eat,”
Anna said with a light smile, pulling out a chair: “Take a seat!”
“What have you ordered?”
After Joel sat down, he snatched the menu from the waiter and asked, “What specialties do you have here at the hotel?”
Since it was Julius paying, he might as well order the expensive dishes.
“Our Water Pearl offers all dishes as specialties, you won’t find a second one like it in all of Five-river Province!”
The waiter replied with a smile.
“What do you mean by that? It’s the first time I’ve ever heard that every dish is a specialty! Can your plain rice somehow be made into something extraordinary?”
Joel was somewhat dissatisfied after hearing the waiter’s words.
It sounded like the waiter was quibbling!
“Sir, you’re actually right! Our rice is scented with osmanthus, why not order a portion and try it?”
The waiter kept a smile on his face the whole time.
“Hey! What are you talking about!”
Though Joel was not pleased, he tried to maintain his dignity in front of everyone, and pointed to a few dishes that cost over ten thousand each: “This one, this one, and this one, bring them all!”
He ordered three dishes in a row, totaling one hundred thousand.
“I’m sorry, but we can’t make the dishes you’ve requested today due to ingredient issues, and I apologize for the inconvenience,”
The waiter explained, full of regret.
“Damn! They say the Water Pearl is a landmark of Five-river Province, but it’s all just for show!”
Slapping the menu on the table, Joel pushed it towards Anna: “You order!”
The more he thought, the more frustrated he became. When he turned his gaze to Julius, he found him grinning at him.
“Then let’s go with these four dishes!”
Anna Harris circled four items on the menu, and the waiter immediately transmitted the order to the kitchen using the handheld ordering device.
“Get me a Golden Soup!”
Looking at a soup dish on the menu priced at twenty-three thousand, Joel Martin thought about giving it a try.
“Sorry! Due to a temporary shortage of ingredients, could you please choose another dish?”
The waiter explained once again.
“What do you mean by this!”
Joel Martin slammed the table and thundered, “Everything I order is out of stock! Call your manager to see me, right now, immediately!”
He assumed the airs of an arrogant young master, intending to intimidate the waiter.
Even a fool could tell that the waiter was targeting him.
“Exactly! We thought this Pearl on the Water was known for great service, but who would have thought the waitstaff could be so rude!”
Isandro Jackson chimed in from the side, “Call your manager over, I want an explanation!”
“Sorry! I am the manager.”
The waiter who had been standing beside them pointed to the nameplate on his chest, “Do you have any issue? As a top hotel in Five-river Province, Pearl on the Water will make sure to resolve any problems you encounter.”
It was only then that everyone noticed the nameplate on the waiter’s chest, prominently displaying the title General Manager of Pearl on the Water Hotel.
“This…”
Joel Martin’s complexion fluctuated, and for a moment, he didn’t know what to say!
“You’re the general manager, acting like a waiter?”
Isandro Jackson asked somewhat reluctantly.
With the person standing right in front of him, what was there left to complain about? Surely, they couldn’t possibly call over the owner of Pearl on the Water, could they?
Miguel Abbott and his circle were beyond their reach; they would need someone of Stanislaus Potter’s caliber for a proper dialogue.
“Because there is a distinguished guest at this table, I was instructed to attend to you personally.”
The general manager answered with a smile.
“A distinguished guest?”
Joel Martin’s eyes darted around. Of everyone at the table, he had the highest status. Could it be that Miguel Abbott had arranged special care for him?
But even though he was Stanislaus Potter’s nephew, surely it wouldn’t come to this, would it?
After scanning the people around him, Joel Martin was sure that he was the distinguished guest.
Because the status of the others was far below his own.
“Ahem! Please thank Boss Abbott for me, and I will certainly mention this to my uncle once I’m back.”
How could Joel Martin miss such an opportunity to save face?
No sooner had he finished speaking than Isandro Jackson’s face broke out in joy.
“Exactly, out of all of us at this table, only Calvin Leopold has such influence. Boss Abbott and Boss Potter are good friends, so knowing that Calvin Leopold was coming, he even arranged for the general manager to serve us personally.”
Isandro Jackson grinned from ear to ear, as if he was Joel Martin himself.
“That’s the thing, some people might have a bit of money, but they can’t break into our circle! After all, how can any common upstart compare to a young master like our Calvin Leopold?”
As she spoke, she glanced at Julius Reed, her tone full of mockery.
“Well!”
Julius Reed grabbed the menu and turned to Anna Harris, “Golden Soup is one of the specialties here. Don’t you want to try it?”
“Didn’t they say they were out of ingredients?”
Anna Harris looked at Julius Reed with a surprised gaze.
The general manager had just made it very clear; did Julius Reed not hear?
“How ridiculous! You say that because you know it’s not available, so you dare to offer it, knowing well that the dish can’t be made and you won’t have to pay for it!”
Isandro Jackson said disdainfully.
“Who says it’s not available?”
Julius Reed pointed to the menu, addressing the general manager, “I’ll have one, please.”
“Alright! One Golden Soup coming up!”
The general manager picked up the walkie-talkie, “Prepare the Golden Soup for table number 13 immediately, and make it fast!”
