Chapter 451: Chapter 452: It Would Be Great to Have a Child
At that moment, she heard footsteps outside.
She figured it must be Shen Shichuan.
Xia Yangyang said to Shen Manbing: “You go to the dining room first, I’ll cook one more dish, and then we can start our dinner.”
Shen Manbing left.
Xia Yangyang swiftly cooked a dish of sautéed mushrooms and greens and brought it to the dining room.
“We can start now.” Xia Yangyang announced with a warm smile.
But when she saw the other figure in the dining room…
Xia Yangyang’s steps halted.
Gu Qichen held a bottle of wine, having just arrived at the door.
Shen Manbing had already set the table: “Ah Chen, come here. Yangyang cooked all the dishes today. You are really lucky, your wife is a star, she can earn money and cook. You should treat her better. Otherwise, how many people are eyeing such a good wife.”
Gu Qichen chuckled: “I will take your advice.”
Then he walked in.
Xia Yangyang immediately avoided Gu Qichen’s gaze.
Xia Yangyang was no good at acting, so she couldn’t act nonchalantly.
Xia Yangyang wasn’t sure if Shen Shichuan did this on purpose or not today.
But Shen Manbing was completely clueless.
During the dinner, Xia Yangyang and Gu Qichen didn’t converse. Bluntly, Shen Manbing asked, “Did you two have a fight?”
Gu Qichen calmly replied, “No.”
Xia Yangyang added, “We weren’t arguing, we’re just getting a divorce.”
Shen Shichuan frowned, but Shen Manbing was shocked, dropping her chopsticks.
After a brief pause, Shen Manbing tentatively asked, “Are you kidding?”
In the past, whenever Xia Yangyang mentioned divorce, Gu Qichen would immediately become angry.
But now it seemed like he had gotten used to it.
He calmly picked a piece of braised pork and put it in Xia Yangyang’s bowl.
Then he smiled at Shen Manbing: “She’s joking.”
But Shen Manbing did not look relieved.
However, Xia Yangyang had put down her chopsticks: “Gu Qichen, I am not joking with you. If you still refuse to sign the divorce agreement, I will file a lawsuit tomorrow. It doesn’t matter if you defend yourself or not in court. Once I get the divorce judgment, it doesn’t matter whether you sign it or not, whether we have a divorce certificate or not.”
At last, Gu Qichen slammed his chopsticks down: “Go ahead and sue. Let’s see if any lawyer will take your divorce case and if the divorce order will be given.”
Gu Qichen sneered, “You can forget about it in this lifetime.”
Whenever this topic came up, they could never reach an agreement.
Xia Yangyang was furious: “Gu Qichen, do you think this is entertaining?”
“I find it particularly amusing.”
“You’re simply being unreasonable.”
“It’s good that you know. From now on, better not mention the word ‘divorce’. It’s not up for discussion.”
Xia Yangyang stood up and left the dining room.
Shen Manbing and Shen Shichuan exchanged glances, then followed her out.
Gu Qichen was also upset.
Shen Shichuan opened a bottle of wine and poured it for Gu Qichen.
Without giving it a second glance, Gu Qichen swallowed it in one gulp.
Shen Shichuan said, “That’s a ’92 Eagle Winery cabernet sauvignon, and you just guzzled it. I feel it’s quite a waste.”
Gu Qichen coldly retorted, “Don’t forget who brought this wine here.”
Shen Shichuan laughed.
This man was truly at the end of his tether, even nitpicking over a casual remark.
Shen Shichuan continued pouring wine: “Why don’t you tell her that you founded Xinli Media? That you’re the one who stepped in to help when Starlight was facing a crisis? You provided the money and the effort, yet I took all the credit. If Yangyang knew you were the one who’s been helping her behind the scenes, she might be touched.”
Gu Qichen sighed: “If she knew it was me, she would probably prefer Starlight to go bankrupt rather than accept my help.”
Shen Shichuan furrowed his brow: “Actually, I’ve been meaning to ask you, what exactly happened between you two that made things like this? Is there really no way out?”
Gu Qichen sighed again, but chose not to reply.
He was unwilling to bring up the past related to his sister.
Although it had already been ten years since that incident, it was still a major stumbling block in his life.
Furthermore, things were not going well with Gu Mingzhu.
She was melancholic all day and often advised him to get a divorce too.
“Enough. Let’s just drink,” Gu Qichen sighed.
Shen Shichuan also felt helpless: “It really would’ve been much easier if you have a child.”
Both men’s eyes lit up, exchanging a knowing look.
