Chapter 586: Chapter 587: Do You Know How I’ve Lived These Past Four Years?!
Gu Qichen sat in the sofa.
His face was gloomy.
But his gaze seemed lost.
Xi Zijun spoke, “I know you’re upset, but please stop clenching your fist. Otherwise, I’ll have to rebandage you later.”
Gu Zhaohan entered, calling out, “Uncle.”
Gu Qichen finally lifted his head.
But the way he looked at Gu Zhaohan was terrifyingly somber.
“Is your hand okay?” Gu Zhaohan’s tone was distant and indifferent.
Xi Zijun walked over to Gu Zhaohan, tugged on his arm and murmured, “This isn’t the time to provoke him, you know very well…”
“Zijun, I have some things to discuss with my uncle. Could you please step out for a moment?”
Xi Zijun glanced at Gu Qichen over there, picked up her medical kit, and did as he asked, leaving the room.
But she didn’t close the door behind her and didn’t go far.
Gu Qichen now looked like a provoked beast coiled in a corner, ready to lash out at any moment.
Xi Zijun was inevitably worried.
Gu Zhaohan walked up to Gu Qichen, his voice casual, “Uncle, I’m sure you have questions for me. I’m here to clarify any doubts you may have. I’ll answer all your questions truthfully.”
Gu Qichen finally lifted his head.
His gaze towards Gu Zhaohan was icy and severe.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
Gu Qichen asked the question seemingly out of the blue.
It wouldn’t make sense to anyone else.
But they both knew exactly what it referred to.
Gu Zhaohan began, “You’re upset because I knew about Yangyang’s whereabouts but didn’t tell you. Yes, I purposefully kept it from you because I didn’t want you to disrupt Yangyang’s life.”
Gu Qichen sneered, “Me, disrupting her life? I think you were considering your own interests.”
Gu Zhaohan admitted frankly, “Of course, I was also considering myself. I’ve liked Yangyang since college. My love for her is no less than yours. But back then, I was one step behind you. Uncle, you’ve taught me never to make the same mistake twice, so this time, I need to take the initiative.”
Gu Zhaohan’s tone was calm.
But Gu Qichen couldn’t suppress his fury any longer. He grabbed Gu Zhaohan by the collar and exploded, “So you want to get the upper hand! Gu Zhaohan, do you even see me as your uncle anymore? Do you have any idea how I’ve been these past four years? I’ve practically exhausted myself trying to find her while you’ve been stabbing me in the heart. And to think you still call me uncle, after I raised you with my own hands!”
There was a flicker in Gu Zhaohan’s cold eyes.
His gaze locked onto Gu Qichen’s eyes. His voice was still calm, but clear accusation came through, “Uncle, do you know how I felt those years? Do you know how painful it was for me to see Yangyang snuggling in your arms, her smiles in full bloom? Every time you forced me to call her aunt, it felt like a knife plunging into my heart. Uncle, I tried compromising and giving up, I really did. If you were still blissfully in love, I wouldn’t have come back from the United States, I wouldn’t have disrupted your happiness. But you lost that chance, not me. Now, I won’t step aside for you anymore, and I won’t love secretly. I’ll marry Yangyang, and we will live our lives together. So I hope you won’t interfere with our lives.”
“Dream on!”
Gu Qichen landed a punch on him.
