Song Zhu arrived holding a box of cherries, standing by the open door he knocked and said, “Doctor Qiao, I brought you some fruits.”

“Doctor Song, please come in. You are always so polite, I have lost count of how many fruits you’ve given me, it’s almost embarrassing.”

“What’s the big deal? I got them as gifts, I didn’t actually pay for them. Enjoy them without worry, I have plenty at home!”

Song Zhu continued his gestures of generosity and placed the cherries on Qiao Yin’s desk.

He casually seated himself on the adjacent sofa, feigning nonchalance before asking, ” I heard Young Master Gu from the Gu Family visited you again? I hope he didn’t cause any trouble?”

Qiao Yin chuckled, “No, Young Master Gu was quite polite, and he is a good person.”

Song Zhu felt a complicated surge of emotions, “You think he’s nice?”

“Yes.”

How could Qiao Yin think that Gu Jing, a notorious playboy and social butterfly, was a good person?

Could it be that she had fallen for this wealthy flirt?

The mere possibility of such a situation was heart-wrenching for Song Zhu.

He bitterly thought to himself that all the men in Qiao Yin’s life seemed to be from prominent families — first, there was Lu Lingche, now Gu Jing. Both men were not only handsome but supported by powerful families. He couldn’t possibly compete with them.

Initially, he was confident in himself, a medical doctor who graduated from a prestigious university, with a father who was a Hospital Director in a private hospital and a mother who held a high-ranking position within a financial company. He assumed his pedigree and personal capacity would be more than a match for Qiao Yin.

But now, facing a rival like Gu Jing, his confidence was shaken.

As he was pondering, someone suddenly rushed in through the door, “Doctor Qiao!”

Seeing him, Song Zhu was momentarily struck dumb.

Raising her head, Qiao Yin saw that it was Gu Jing who had turned back again!

She straightened up and smiled at him, “Young Master Gu, why have you returned? Did you forget something?”

Gu Jing felt that Qiao Yin’s attitude towards him was more friendly today.

He didn’t think much of it. After all, he had never experienced any obstacles when it came to courting girls, none had ever rejected him, and it seemed Qiao Yin was following the same pattern.

Laughing, he walked over to Qiao Yin and casually leaned on her desk, “You’re right, I did forget something!”

“What did you forget? I’ll help you look for it.”

“I’ve left my heart with you, Doctor Qiao. You must help me find it. It’s surely within your reach.”

His words gave Qiao Yin goosebumps, but she kept her smile, “Young Master Gu, you do enjoy your jokes.”

Gu Jing laughed heartily, he reached into his pants pocket and handed her a box, “I was just teasing you. Here, accept this little toy, for you.”

Qiao Yin took a look and saw it was a Cartier box.

Upon opening it, the box contained a sparkling diamond necklace.

Qiao Yin wasn’t particularly well-versed in luxury brands, but coincidentally Lu Yanxi had bought the same necklace and was wearing it when they had dinner together the night before. Lu Yanxi mentioned that the necklace cost over two hundred thousand.

Qiao Yin immediately handed the box back, “This is too expensive, Young Master Gu, I can’t accept it.”

Gu Jing seemed to dismiss the matter, he was used to such extravagance, “It’s not worth much. I chose one that only cost me two hundred thousand in case you would refuse. Otherwise, I would have chosen one for two million. Don’t reject it, it’s an intentional gift for you, from my grandfather to thank you. He also knows about this gift.”

Sitting behind him, Song Zhu sank further into despair. His supposedly “inexpensive” little gift actually cost two hundred thousand.

He helplessly looked at the box of cherries he had brought.

The two gifts were incomparable, making Song Zhu feel hopelessly inferior.

“No, I really can’t accept this, please take it back, Young Master Gu!”
