Chapter 116: Chapter 110 The Change in Zhan Qipei’s Attitude Toward Qiao Jing
The nurse had barely finished speaking when she saw the dumbfounded expressions on Zhan Nanqing and Lou Xinrou.
She snorted softly, turned, and left, feeling a great sense of relief.
A full minute passed before Zhan Nanqing and Lou Xinrou somewhat recovered, staring at each other with wide eyes, unable to utter a word.
Lu Zijiao rushed over as soon as he received the news about Zhan Yuanshan.
“Young Master Zhan, how is your grandfather doing?”
Zhan Qipei looked emotionlessly at Lu Zijiao, “Qiao Jing cured him.”
“Oh, that’s good to hear.” Lu Zijiao let out a sigh of relief, then suddenly his eyes widened as he stared at Zhan Qipei. “What did you say? Who cured your grandfather’s illness?”
Zhan Qipei’s eyes narrowed, the darkness in them unclear as he stared at Lu Zijiao, his cool, thin lips curved into a faintly indifferent arc.
“Why are you looking at me like that? It’s giving me the creeps.” Lu Zijiao hugged his arms and rubbed them.
Before Lu Zijiao could finish speaking, Zhan Qipei suddenly raised his hand and grabbed him by the collar.
“Lu Zijiao, are you still pretending? I treated you like a brother, yet you’ve been deceiving me!”
Lu Zijiao was backed against a wall, completely dumbfounded.
“What are you talking about? Deceiving you? What did I deceive you about?”
“Still pretending?” Zhan Qipei’s eyes became slits, “When my grandfather fell ill, the hospital was at a loss, and in the end, Qiao Jing cured my grandfather. With her medical skills, you’re telling me she’s a quack?”
Lu Zijiao blinked, then blinked again.
“Really, really… Qiao Jing cured him?” Lu Zijiao stammered, barely able to get the words out.
Zhan Qipei frowned, “You really didn’t know?”
“Me, I don’t know shit! Let go of me first; I need to make a call to my brother.”
Lu Zijiao, to prove his ignorance, dialed the number and turned on the speakerphone at the same time.
“Hello?”
“Brother! Didn’t you say that Qiao Jing is a quack doctor?”
“She is,” Lu Zijin said.
“But, she cured Old Master Zhan!”
After Lu Zijiao shouted this, the line went silent.
Lu Zijiao looked up at Zhan Qipei and shrugged his shoulders, signaling that he truly was innocent.
“Brother? Brother, why aren’t you saying anything?”
“Oh,” was Lu Zijin’s indifferent reply.
“Huh? What does ‘oh’ mean?”
“She might have just been lucky, happened to cure him,” Lu Zijin said unwillingly, “I have a patient waiting for surgery, gotta hang up.”
With a “beep,” the call ended.
Lu Zijiao “…”
“See, I didn’t deceive you, I was also fooled. But honestly, I didn’t expect my brother to fool me, I—wait a second!”
Lu Zijiao suddenly realized a very serious problem and turned sharply to Zhan Qipei, his eyes fiercely shocked.
“You, you mean she, she… Qiao Jing, she’s the one who saved you that day?”
Zhan Qipei nodded. “She won’t admit it, but I’ll make her.”
“Gasp—” Lu Zijiao inhaled sharply, “I need to straighten this out, my mind is a mess. If Qiao Jing really is the person you’ve been looking for, then you won’t get a divorce. If you don’t get a divorce, what happens to my brother?”
“What happens to your brother is none of my concern, as long as he stops harassing her from now on.” Zhan Qipei was feeling very troubled at the moment; the girl had absolutely no feelings for him, and on top of that, he had a whole host of rivals.
Lu Zijin was among them, so was Xu Moqian, even his cousin Zhan Ruiting had designs on his own cousin’s wife.
Lu Zijiao thought for a moment and said, “I think the conclusion you reached is a little premature. When you were rescued back then, you weren’t very conscious and your vision was also very blurry. Since you didn’t get a clear look at the person’s face, you can’t just assume that Qiao Jing is the one you’re looking for just because of her medical skill, right?”
“She also knows kung fu.”
“Kung fu varies in strength, and her martial arts are probably very mediocr—,” Lu Zijiao didn’t finish his sentence before being interrupted by Zhan Qipei.
“She could knock you down with one punch.”
Lu Zijiao, “…”
Using him as the measurement?
“Fine, let’s say she is strong in kung fu and skilled in medicine, but that’s still not solid evidence. She is denying it now, how can you be sure it’s definitely her?”
Zhan Qipei’s face turned icy, his thin lips pressed tightly together.
“I will make her admit it.”
“And what if it really isn’t her?” Lu Zijiao asked Zhan Qipei seriously.
Zhan Qipei’s indifferent expression darkened, and the depth in his eyes made it impossible to read his thoughts.
After a lengthy silence, Zhan Qipei spoke again, “As I said, I will find a way to make her admit it.”
Lu Zijiao shrugged, “Alright, I know what you’re like. Once you make up your mind, not even eighteen oxen could pull you back.”
As he spoke, Lu Zijiao let out a long sigh, “I actually hope it isn’t Qiao Jing. If it is, on one side is you, my brother, and on the other is my own brother. Who should I help then?”
“You don’t need to help. No one can compare to the fate between her and me,” said Zhan Qipei, his brow arching with innate pride as he spoke.
Lu Zijiao nodded, “That’s true. If it really is Qiao Jing, then the tie between you two is indeed profound. But if I remember correctly, you only have 29 days left before you need to go to the civil affairs bureau for the divorce, right?”
Just hearing the word “divorce” made Zhan Qipei’s teeth ache.
“You seem to remember it quite clearly.”
“It’s not that I remembered it well, it’s that my brother is counting the days on the calendar. When I left this morning, I saw the number 29 marked with a red marker on today’s calendar.”
Zhan Qipei held his breath for two seconds in silence before striding away.
What, he’s just walking away?
“Young Master Zhan?”
As Zhan Qipei walked away, he said, “Go back and tell your brother to stop setting his sights on her. He doesn’t stand a chance.”
“Who knows about these things? He’s got to try,” said Lu Zijiao briskly, only to be glared back at by Zhan Qipei who had turned around.
Lu Zijiao covered his mouth, shrugging his shoulders.
“I didn’t say anything. I said nothing at all.”
The next morning.
When Qiao Jing got up and pushed the door open to leave, she saw Zhan Qipei heating up milk.
“Awake? I’ve squeezed the toothpaste for you, go wash up. I’ve bought steamed buns, the milk will be ready in a bit, and I’ve also boiled some eggs. You can come eat after you’re done washing up.”
Watching the man’s busy figure in an apron, Qiao Jing instinctively turned her head to look out the window.
Just as she looked out, she heard the man’s voice close to her ear.
“The weather this morning is not bad, but there will be rain in the afternoon. You don’t have to worry, I’ll pick you up after you get off work.”
After a brief moment of being lost in thought, Qiao Jing their eyes once more fell on Zhan Qipei, with a touch of scrutiny in her gaze.
“What are you looking at? Are you so hungry you can’t wait?” Zhan Qipei asked Qiao Jing in good spirits.
Qiao Jing scratched her hair, and after a pause of two seconds, asked with puzzlement, “What’s gotten into you?”
