Chapter 71: Chapter 71: Showing You a Mini Movie
“With Abigail’s words, the atmosphere in the living room became delicate and awkward.
Lincoln Green’s face flushed with anger. He couldn’t keep his pride. “You made a mistake and still have the nerve not to apologize. Apologize when you’re told to.”
“I didn’t make a mistake. Why should I apologize?” Abigail raised her eyes, glanced at a few people, a hint of sarcasm on her lips.
This time, before Lincoln Green could explode, Mrs. Stone erupted, “You beat my son like that and still claim you made no mistake. Do you plan to beat him to death before admitting fault? Clark is willing to marry you even though you look like this. That’s a blessing for you, yet you’re still so vicious. It’s terrifying.”
After saying this, Mrs. Stone exaggeratedly stepped back, the gold bracelet on her wrist clinking.
Mr. Stone’s face was also not good, but he barely maintained a veneer of politeness as he looked at Lincoln Green. “Old Green, what show are you putting on? Is it possible that our Clark is at fault?”
“Of course, it’s his fault.” Abigail didn’t wait for Lincoln Green to speak and answered first.
At this, Mr. Stone’s expression also faltered. “Old Green, look at the good daughter you’ve raised. Although the Stones aren’t as prominent as the Greens, we are still a reputable family in Gills City. How can you treat us like this?”
“Abigail, shut up.” Lincoln Green angrily shouted at Abigail, quickly turning his head to apologize to the Stone parents.
Abigail stood still, her peripheral vision catching sight of Clark Stone’s bad expression, her face appearing even more calm and composed.
Clark Stone was puzzled. Why was this plump woman so calm? Did she really have evidence?
“Old Green, for your sake, if she apologizes to Clark right now, otherwise, let’s just cancel this engagement.” Mrs. Stone glanced at Abigail with disgust. If it weren’t for Ruby Green soon marrying into the Piers family, they wouldn’t have let Clark marry this fat woman.
Just the thought of marrying Abigail Green made Mrs. Stone feel that the Stone family would become a laughingstock, causing her to find Abigail utterly unappealing.
But the affiliation with the Piers family was too tempting.
“Mother-in-law, you can’t say that. Abigail is still young. Old Stone, please help me talk to her. The engagement date has been set. How can we cancel it?” Lincoln Green gave a forced smile.
The money had already been deposited. Now, canceling the engagement wasn’t that simple.
Mr. Stone knew the situation was urgent, glaring at his wife. “Engagement is a serious matter. How can it be taken lightly?”
“Hmph. Then let her apologize.” Mrs. Stone’s eyes swept over Abigail’s plump body, not bothering to hide her disdain.
But Lincoln Green seemed blind to it.
“Don’t you want to know why I hit him?” Abigail, looking at the situation in front of her, remained unaffected by Mrs. Stone’s words and asked mockingly.
Others froze; they seemed to have never considered this question.
Hearing this question, they instinctively looked at Clark Stone.
Clark Stone coughed lightly. “Dad, Mom, Uncle Green, in this matter, you can’t entirely blame Abigail. That day, I had some drinks, and a few friends were there. We joked around. Abigail might have misunderstood my relationship with Lily.”
The lie was told naturally, turning the ordeal into a story of Abigail being jealous.
“Lily? That internet celebrity. So that’s how it is. Our Clark wouldn’t look at an internet celebrity. It must have been her trying to cling onto him. But Abigail, you still can’t act recklessly because of it and attack my son?” Mrs. Stone didn’t care whose fault it was.
Lincoln Green’s face didn’t look good either. “Because of a misunderstanding, you attacked your Clark brother. Abigail Green, you are truly something.”
Clark Stone threw a provocative smile at Abigail.
Abigail glanced at the people in the hall, then silently opened her canvas bag. Before the others could understand what was happening, a small, rechargeable projector was turned on, projecting images onto the wall. “Let me show you a little movie.”
Because of the strong daylight, the image was hard to see, but soon everyone began to hear…
