Chapter 71: Chapter 5 Connection
James’s loft has a kind of coldness that does not match his age, such as the sofa in the living room on the first floor. The black and white colors and the rigid texture give people the illusion of sitting on a stone. Zach touched on the armrest, and the taut musk deer skin corner revealed a small leather with ‘K.S.’ printed on it. It is the name of a designer who is now very famous in the Federation.
The vampire raised his eyebrows and looked at Spell, who was dissatisfied, took two cushions and placed them on a sofa that was no different from a stone covered with skin, before sitting down.
The one who can sit down and talk is the real power of the Gale family, and Coord was cleaning up the bloodstains on the floor with Benjamin.
“James Rance.” Spell half-closed her eyelids: “He read the soul-guiding spell I wrote.”
“Yes!” Zach looked at the woman with a smile, and the person they were talking about, James, was in the bathroom, cleaning his head that was full of blood. Of course, his left wrist injury has been healed with the blood given generously by the vampire.
“Ryan, how is he now?” Spell’s tone did not change.
“Well, a bit annoying,” Zach told the truth.
Although the name ‘Ryan’ was still used, Ryan has actually nothing to do with ‘Gale’ now. His appearance is based on Connor. It is also Connor’s body parts (blood and hair) that hold him together in this world.
Spell obviously didn’t want to talk more about this issue, and changed the topic: “This James is your men?”
“Mhm.” Zach squeezed his eyes, pouted his lips, drawled, and gestured with his hands: “Probably, hopefully, yes.”
Spell looked at Zach’s expression and snorted. It was obvious that the Inan Shaman was not interested in the social life of vampires. Spell’s eyes drifted away impatiently: “Then I want to remind you that he is too close to something dangerous. He needs to step back!”
“Are you saying Papa midnight?” Zach raised his eyebrows.
Spell eyes floated back, staring at the smiling vampire: “You already know it!”
Zach shrugged. He leaned forward to get closer to the other party, placed his elbows on his knees, and raised his head: “As you can see, I am trying to be friends with this detective James Rance. So when he called and said, ‘Hey, I found the case I’m working on is a bit weird’, I dared not relax for a moment. ”
Zach had a smile on his face and gestured with his fingers in the air: “So, you can imagine, when I discovered that this ‘strange’ case was related to Papa Midnight, this frustration really made me a little sad!” Zach frowned deliberately and put on a sad look.
“So, at least, at least!” Zach spread his palms in front of Spell, looking helpless: “Before I embarrass myself in front of the friend who I try to please, at least let me know why? Why would that guy show up in Barton!”
“Put away your nonsense!” Spell stared threateningly at the vampire’s ‘performance’, “I’m not the kind of person who will believe your bad performance!”
Zach put away all his expressions, tilted his head, leaned back on the sofa, and his tone became plain: “You can’t blame me for trying. After all, I once sincerely invited you to the Grande Funeral Home, but you declined. ”
Zach was talking about his night visit half a month ago. The vampire thought that at least Grande had taken in Ryan, and the couple would have a better impression of the Grande family. But Zach waited for half a month, and the couple had no intention of visiting.
“We are very busy.” Spell’s brows frowned tightly.
“Because of ‘midnight’?” Zach chuckled slightly: “Don’t tell me, you didn’t call him.”
“It’s us.” Spell’s tone became cold, with a trace of regret in her eyes: “That’s a desperate move.”
“This is the problem between us.” Zach cocked his legs, “We all live in Barton, and we all want the same life. But we never communicate or trust each other. If I’m not wrong, Connor’s body didn’t go back to its original position until midnight, is that right?”
“Yes.” Spell tightened the cloak on her shoulders, expressing her disdain with a heavy nasal sound: “What can you do if we communicate? The righteous one in the Grande family…” Spell moved her eyes up and looked at the werewolf Benjamin who was carefully scrubbing the floor: “Was effected by the curse of the full moon. What can you do? Do you think we would let a vampire tear my another son’s throat for the soul of one of our own sons?”
The curse refers to the transformation of Alpha during the time of the full moon. Werewolves were created by Inan’s Shaman in order to resist the colonists. They would naturally think that werewolves represent the righteous side. This is not a judgment on Benjamin’s personality, but a pure racial prejudice against vampires. In fact, judging from the first time Ryan saw Benjamin, he knew that this Shaman family did not completely trust the werewolf. As far as we can see, this is more like a hunter family!
Zach ignored Spell’s discrimination and winked, “So you called Papa.” Zach rolled his eyes. “What a wise decision.”
.
If there is no musk, the sound must be unusually crisp!
Spell pressed her thin hand on the armrest and snarled at the vampire: “We can handle this!”
“You can? ” There was a hint of sarcasm on the corners of Zach’s mouth, his tone increased, and his body leaned forward again, waving his arms sharply: “Then why did so many people commit suicide with X on their hearts? ! Then why am I here? ! Then why a police detective from the homicide division…”
Zach turned his head, saw James, whose hair was still wet, walk towards the two men with a sullen face, then his smile became deeper. “Very well, James, tell our Mrs. Gale, why would you, a homicide detective, investigate a suicide case?”
James hesitated for a while on the choice of seats, and finally sat with the vampire.
Spell frowned and leaned forward slightly, apologizing to James for her previous behavior, and perhaps thanks for saving Ryan’s soul. But if she knew that it was ‘James’ (Jim), who sent her other son to jail to wait for the court’s verdict, Zach didn’t know if Spell would still thank James. After all, we all know that the old Hermann would definitely make the death sentence happen!
James still didn’t know exactly what happened, but obviously, he has linked the arrival of the vampire with the arrival of the Gale couple and the ongoing case. Then he followed the words of the vampire.
“Because we believe that this is not normal suicide, but forced suicide.” There was still a reddish mark on James’ left wrist. “We have collected enough evidence to prove that they were kidnapped.” James took a deep breath and stared at Spell: “I want to know if it’s you!”
This was what James cared about! Obviously, this detective has not recovered from the attack just now. He needed to know whether the person sitting opposite him and talking to him was the murderer!
Spell’s lips were pressed tightly. Does this mean that she admitted it silently?
“Detective Rance.” Zach used a surname plus a title, usually, this means that Zach wants to emphasize something: “You used the word ‘strange’ when you called me, so please don’t use your common sense label to limit the person or thing in front of you.” Zach looked at James, “You know what I mean.”
James frowned. He felt a headache. What does the vampire mean? ! The concept of pure justice and evil seemed to be blurred in the detective’s mind again.
“You said, kidnapped.” Spell ignored James’ question, “Which time do you mean?”
James clenched his fist: “One of the deceased disappeared for two hours when dealing with official duties a week ago. We have testimony from colleagues…”
“That’s not us.” Spell interrupted and then gave the answer directly, “We contacted him the day before yesterday.” Spell glanced at James: “And we have never stepped out of the line. It was almost the same as what you experienced today, except that you were pierced by a knife. That was not our original intention, but you were too vigilant.”
Being held down, splashed with sheep’s blood, forced to hear her chanting spell?
“What do you mean?” James asked sullenly.
“Because we want to confirm that you are not Papa Midnight’s Dead Apostle.”
“‘Papa Midnight’, ‘Dead Apostle’?” James subconsciously turned his head to look at the vampire.
Zach was very happy with this subconscious behavior of asking for help from him. “You know, when a person dies, his soul will either go to another world or wander in this world. Of course, in the end, their bodies and souls will disappear. But there is one person, we call him Papa Midnight, and he finds those lucky souls and bodies that have not disappeared, makes a contract with them, let them work for him, and he will bring them back to life. Then the people who agreed with Papa Midnight to return to this world, they got the second chance of life~”
It’s the second chance again! James put his hands on his eyes, and the detective fell into a certain distressed mood again, and the swollen veins on his forehead showed the detective’s struggle.
“Huh!” Spell chuckled and shook her head, “Are you whitewashing Papa Midnight? Second chance? lucky? It should be poor and miserable! Those people are nothing but slaves to Papa Midnight! His paranoid and delusional martyr!”
“Shush!” Zach faced Spell, placing a finger on his mouth: “Can’t you tell? I’m honing our Detective Rance. In order to teach him what is right and wrong, he needs to discover the key points by himself! ”
The general’s son put down his hand and stared at the vampire fiercely! When Zach said these things, it seemed as if he wasn’t beside him!
James stared almost with hatred at the vampire who had an encouraging smile on his face, “What, did, you, say!”
“Think, James, think about what I just said, and you will find the point.” The vampire’s eyes narrowed.
In the short silence, only James breathed heavily, and James’ pupils constricted slightly as if thinking of something: “Jobs! You said to work for Papa Midnight! What kind of job!”
The smile bloomed on Zach’s face like a flower. He pointed at Spell: “A kind of work that you would rather break the contract by an unusually bloody suicide than do it. So, this one is not the murderer you are looking for, she is the one who told those poor people how to ‘resign’.”
