Chapter 272: Chapter 272: Soul Gem
Lin Shen saw Tian Xun as nothing but a mosaic of human shape, and the seductive gesture didn’t elicit any special feeling in him.
Tian Xun originally intended to tease Lin Shen, but seeing him with no reaction at all, as if his gaze upon her was no different from staring at the air, she felt somewhat uncomfortable for reasons unknown.
She was supposed to undo just the first button, but she undid two, revealing a large expanse of snow-white skin and a deep, unfathomable cleavage.
Regrettably, this beautiful scene was not for Lin Shen to enjoy; it was all mosaics to him.
Tian Xun saw no change in Lin Shen’s gaze, as if the most beautiful mountain scenery were no more than pork to him, stirring in her a nearly murderous impulse.
Holding down the rage in her heart, Tian Xun’s fingers slid over her sensuous collarbone; in between her collarbones, on the snow-white skin, an odd crystal seemed to have grown, as though congealed from fresh blood.
Lin Shen couldn’t see the strange crystal on Tian Xun’s body and had no idea what she was doing, blankly watching her.
Tian Xun, now devoid of any smile on her face, looked extremely cold as she reached out and yanked the blood-red crystal out of her own flesh.
Although it clearly grew within her flesh, when she extracted it, her skin remained intact without any blemishes.
“I am half Spirit Clan by blood, and this is my Soul Gem,” Tian Xun said, fingering the blood-colored crystal, deliberately letting it spin in front of her chest against her pale skin, creating a stark contrast of blood and white.
But sadly, Lin Shen’s gaze remained as clear as the spring water on a snowy mountain, free from any impurity.
“I just left my home planet, so I don’t know much about the races in the universe,” Lin Shen said, a bit helplessly, his knowledge of the universe coming merely from Tian Xin and Wei Wufu, which really wasn’t much.
With the countless races in the universe, he genuinely hadn’t heard of the Spirit Clan.
“Not knowing is fine, just ask someone and you will naturally find out,” Tian Xun, holding the Soul Gem, said like making a wish, “With my Soul Gem I make a promise, if Lin Shen can kill Cosimo within three days, I will ensure his safety, should my heart betray this vow, my spirit shall shatter.”
As Tian Xun spoke, a bloodlight pulsed within the Soul Gem like a heartbeat, its light growing ever stronger, coalescing into a core of light.
Tian Xun tossed the Soul Gem towards Lin Shen, who raised a hand and caught it.
It was just a stone, yet the moment it came into contact with Lin Shen, he felt as if he could hear its heartbeat, Tian Xun’s promise echoing repeatedly within the Soul Gem, as though whispered by ancient gods.
“Keep the Soul Gem, you can inquire about what happens if a promise made with a Spirit Clan’s Soul Gem is broken,” Tian Xun said as she rebuttoned her shirt, her face expressionless.
Lin Shen didn’t need to ask to guess that if Tian Xun went to such extents, the Soul Gem must have a significant restraining power on her.
Now Lin Shen pretty much believed in Tian Xun’s sincerity, but even if she would not use him as a scapegoat, the question of how to kill Cosimo remained a difficult one.
Lin Shen had planned to use this reason to terminate the cooperation with Tian Xun, but with Tian Xun’s move, he had no chance to even refuse.
“First, let’s see how much the offerings increase in the next two days; if it’s really not enough, I’m afraid we’ll have to use Tian Xun’s Mutated Ascension Egg for flight,” Lin Shen thought that even at the cost of a Life Base, he couldn’t risk his life, and if it came to it, he would have to follow Tian Xun’s plan.
“I’ll do my best,” Lin Shen sighed.
“Good, then let’s now study the Twenty-Eight Fists. I may not be able to master the Twenty-Eight Fists, but I do understand them somewhat. You have just started learning the Twenty-Eight Fists and haven’t yet tapped into their full potential. Allow me to share with you what I have observed of the Twenty-Eight Fists; it might help you in grasping them…” Tian Xun began to recount her experiences with the Twenty-Eight Fists.
…
Sea Corn Base.
A man dressed in a hoodie and cargo pants walked on the streets of Sea Corn Base.
He bowed his head, hands buried in his trouser pockets, and walked slowly, as if he were strolling through the streets.
Yet his head never lifted, his gaze always fixed on the road beneath his feet, ambling forward without any sign of interest in the path ahead.
On the road ahead, a little girl cautiously rode an Iron-horned Horse, careful in her movements.
The girl rode slowly, clearly a novice at handling the Iron-horned Horse, and although she had mastered the basics, her lack of confidence made her exceedingly cautious.
At the intersection, the girl checked for a green light before proceeding.
But just then, a large black bull came charging from the left, ignoring the red light and colliding with the Iron-horned Horse.
Luckily, since the Iron-horned Horse was moving slowly and the girl tried her best to swerve away, the collision wasn’t full-on.
The Iron-horned Horse’s head was struck, causing it to tumble to the ground, with the girl falling alongside.
Because the black bull had run into the Iron-horned Horse, its rider was also thrown off.
“Are you blind? How could you ride like that? If you can’t ride, don’t come out and endanger others,” the middle-aged woman shouted at the girl, having clambered to her feet.
“I only went because I saw a green light…” the girl said softly.
“So, a green light means you just go? Don’t you know to watch for others? What are eyes for, just for airing out…” the woman berated the girl, wagging her finger in her face.
“It was clearly you who ran the red light. How can you blame the girl?” An onlooker, a young man, could no longer stand by and stepped forward to speak.
“So what if I ran a red light? Does that mean she can be blind? Clearly, she was deliberately blocking the way, trying to scam a payout… You’re in cahoots, aren’t you… Trying to con money? Well, let me tell you, you won’t get a penny out of me,” the woman shouted, jumping up and down in fury.
Several passersby attempted to reason with her but were met with a tirade of insults that left them speechless.
The woman was mid-tirade when she suddenly noticed a tall figure had approached her.
“Another one? Great, all of you are in this together, right? Bullying a helpless woman alone, is that it? I’ll have you know I’m not afraid. Go on, hit me. I refuse to believe that Sea Corn Base has no one who can handle trash like you…” she yelled at the towering figure.
Without warning, the tall figure stretched out a large hand and pressed it against her head.
The woman’s eyes widened in shock, mouth opening to say something, but before she could utter another word, she felt an overwhelming force bearing down on her.
Bang!
The woman’s head was forced to the ground and burst open, spilling blood in all directions. Suddenly, all sounds went silent.
The mysterious figure withdrew his hand and stood, sparing no glance to the body on the ground, and continued walking.
Everyone watched him leave in silence, no one daring to speak.
Soon, enforcers from Sea Corn Base arrived on the scene, and one of the Mutators moved to intercept the stranger but was stopped by a companion.
“Don’t engage, I think I’ve heard of this guy. We can’t handle him. Go, get the Master of the Mansion…” the Mutator said, eyeing the stranger.
However, they soon realized that the stranger was actually heading toward Hai Mansion.
