352 The Past
Yue Jiaojiao put away the painting. “Thank you for your troubles. This is a little token from Zhao Zhan and me. Please accept it.”
Yue Jiaojiao gave her a small piece of silver.
“If you really want to lead a good life, you can go and report it to the court. I’ve read the laws of our court, and article nine hundred and sixty two clearly states that if a child abuses their parents, you can report it to the court, and Zhao Wencai will be arrested and locked up. If you want to do that, I can find someone to help you.”
Zhao Kuazi shook her head repeatedly. “No, no, Wencai is my son. In a world like this, how can a mother sue her own son?”
Yue Jiaojiao straightened her body and said no more. “Zhao Zhan, let’s go back first.”
Zhao Zhan looked deeply at Zhao Kuazi and then nodded. “Sure.”
Yue Jiaojiao wasn’t cold-blooded, she had sympathy for Zhao Kuazi, but she couldn’t empathize with her.
Zhao Kuazi was living a miserable life, and Zhao Wencai was a b*stard that couldn’t care less about it.
Today’s silver was a reward, but she couldn’t stand out and be kind enough to say that she would support her.
For someone like Zhao Kuazi, raising her would be the same as raising an entire family.
She had cried and complained just now because she wanted them to understand that her life was not easy and that she was sad. That was all.
Just as Yue Jiaojiao was lost in her thoughts, Zhao Zhan was already crouching in front of her. “Jiaojiao, get on. I’ll carry you back.”
“Alright.”
Yue Jiaojiao obediently lay on his back.
Yue Jiaojiao recalled the dream again. “Zhao Zhan. I think I met you when I was three years old.”
“Maybe so.”
Zhao Zhan walked forward step by step with determination. As he listened to his lover’s endless chatter, the cold and hard expression on his face softened a lot. “So, the dream you told me about before could be real?”
Yue Jiaojiao leaned on Zhao Zhan’s back and said in a gentle voice, “Perhaps.”
She originally thought that she was confused in the dream and had mixed her memories with the original owner’s.
She had been reminiscing about it all this time.
It seemed that the memories in the dream were her own.
When she was three years old, she inexplicably came to this world for a short time. She fell into an ice cave in a daze. It was the five-year-old Zhao Zhan who risked his life to save her.
She had stayed in the ice cave for long and had fainted when she was rescued. She ended up waking up in the hospital.
At that time, she was young and no one believed her when she told them what she had experienced.
As time passed, even her own subconscious had slowly forgotten about this matter.
“Yue Jiaojiao wrapped her arms around his neck.
“Do you remember what Madam Qin said about me losing my jade pendant? It must have fallen on the ground when I was in trouble.
“Later, I was rescued and taken away by my mother. Zhang Lingshen must have taken you and picked up the jade pendant as well.
“This painting is quite old, it should be one of his paintings from back then.”
Yue Jiaojiao’s tone was unhurried and a little emotional. It turned out that their fate had already intertwined long ago.
Zhao Zhan had saved her twice in this life.
Zhao Zhan’s tone was filled with regret and disappointment, “I can’t remember what happened back then.”
“It’s okay,” Yue Jiaojiao shook her head gently, “If you don’t remember, then so be it. Anyway, after I tell you, you’ll know about this too. We have the painting left behind by Zhang Lingshen for memories. This is more precious than anything else. We really have to thank him for this matter.”
Zhao Zhan thought of that person’s inexplicable appearance when he wanted to sell the painting in the North City and nodded. “The next time I see him, I’ll give him some silver and consider it as us buying this painting.”
Yue Jiaojiao nodded her head slightly.
“Sure. Give them whatever amount he needs.”
After this incident, the relationship between the two of them seemed to have become closer than before.
Not only were their thoughts connected, but their auras also seemed to have fused together.
Zhao Zhan was already at the door.
“I used to think that I might have done something good in my past life to meet you. Now that I think about it, I should have done something good in several lifetimes.
“I still hope that you can always be healthy and safe. I hope you never have to suffer in this life ever again.”
Madam Qin carried Zhao Nian and guarded the door. She carefully wrapped Zhao Nian in a small blanket so that he wouldn’t be exposed to the cold wind. When she saw the two of them return, she pointed to the courtyard and whispered, “Miss Li is here.”
“Li Xiangjun?”
“Her.” Madam Qin’s expression was ugly, and she didn’t dare to speak loudly. “She… She’s pregnant.”
“She’s showing?”
Yue Jiaojiao subconsciously looked into the courtyard and turned to Madam Qin in disbelief. “Are you sure she didn’t gain weight?”
“No, I definitely can’t be mistaken.” Madam Qin frowned.
“You should check up on her. She’s so thin that she’s all bones now. I arranged for her to stay in my room and told her to sit down and not move around. My heart is in a mess just by looking at her.”
“I’ll go and take a look.” Yue Jiaojiao looked worried. “Whose child is she carrying?”
The last time she received Li Xiangjun’s wedding invitation, Yue Jiaojiao did not manage to attend because she left without saying goodbye.
She wondered what was the situation with the person she had married last time.
“Who knows?” Madam Qin patted Zhao Nian, who was in her arms, for fear of waking him up. “Isn’t the one in Jiangnan quite rich? How could he have tormented Miss Li like this?”
Li Xiangjun was on good terms with Yue Jiaojiao, and Madam Qin was very concerned about her.
Now that she saw that she was pregnant and her face was sallow, she did not feel good either.
“Zhao Zhan, go and get Doctor Sun.” Yue Jiaojiao lifted her skirt and entered the courtyard. “I’ll go and look for Xiangjun first.”
She had just finished her confinement period, and the guest room in the house was fully occupied.
Yue Jiaojiao stood quietly at the door and knocked on the door. “Xiangjun, are you asleep?”
“No.” Li Xiangjun walked to the door.
The room was dimly lit, and Yue Jiaojiao only managed to see her face clearly when she was standing at the door.
“You…”
“I’ve been dumped by my husband.” Li Xiangjun’s face was haggard, but her eyes were unusually bright. “I didn’t know where else to go, so I came to see you first.”
“Xiangjun, the position of the shop’s manager has always been reserved for you.”
Yue Jiaojiao helped Li Xiangjun into the room and sat her down. “If you’re tired from walking, you can stay here. When the child in your stomach is successfully born, you can return to the shop and be the manager.”
“You’re pregnant now, and it’ll be too hard on you to travel far.”
Li Xiangjun shook her head slightly. She lowered her head and said gently, “It’s fine. I have silver on me. You don’t have to worry.”
Yue Jiaojiao noticed her neck from the corner of her eyes, and then she turned her head to take a closer look.
