Chapter 397: Chapter 397 Shocking Everyone
After another glass of about three taels of baijiu, Ling Haining couldn’t take it anymore either.
Two glasses roughly making up six taels, plus the half-jin of yellow wine he’d drunk with Luo Ziling, the mutual toasting they did, which totaled at least around two jins of yellow wine, and not to mention the considerable amount of red wine—they’d all already exceeded his maximum alcohol tolerance, which is why, after apologizing, he followed in Ling Haijun’s footsteps and headed for the washroom.
Luo Ziling poured another drink and toasted Mr. Chen, “Mr. Chen, this one’s for you. Cheers first as a token of respect!”
By this time, Luo Ziling’s face was becoming redder and redder.
Seeing Luo Ziling’s condition, Chen Jiahai thought he must be nearing his limit and didn’t refuse, promptly downing his glass.
Under Luo Ziling’s suggestion of doubling the fun, he drank another glass.
Next, Luo Ziling drank two more glasses with Fang Dongxun, and another two with Wu Zhongning.
Even he himself didn’t know how many glasses he had downed; Cao Jianhui and Wu Longjiang, holding the wine bottles, were staring in disbelief, several times suspecting that what Luo Ziling was drinking wasn’t alcohol but plain water.
After sniffing the wine bottles a few times, they ultimately dismissed their suspicions, but they were still worried that Luo Ziling would drink too much and pass out.
However, they also knew that Luo Ziling was competing with these wealthy scions, even over women, so they didn’t dare to persuade him against drinking.
In the end, Luo Ziling had drunk a total of eight bottles of baijiu with these guys, and everyone except Fang Dongxun had scurried off to the washroom.
“Brother, you’re the best drinker I’ve ever seen, without exception,” Fang Dongxun, although still holding up, was also feeling a bit dizzy. He belched and said to Luo Ziling, “Regardless, I greatly admire you. You took on so many of us by yourself; you’re incredible. If it weren’t for the issue with Yang Qingyin, I’d really like to be friends with you.”
“Maybe by that time, I might also be willing to be friends with you,” Luo Ziling replied, giving Fang Dongxun a pat on the shoulder.
Having learned from Ling Ruonan that his grandfather, Luo Liansheng, and Fang Dongxun’s grandfather, Fang Xiang, were on good terms, and that there was no strife between the Fang and Luo families, Luo Ziling indeed had a better impression of Fang Dongxun than the others. Plus, given Fang Dongxun’s more respectable conduct today and his words, Luo Ziling responded in kind.
After being patted on the shoulder by Luo Ziling, Fang Dongxun slumped down, seated. He’d also had too much to drink and couldn’t support himself any longer.
Luo Ziling didn’t say much else, and, taking Cao Jianhui and Wu Longjiang with him, he walked back to his original seat with firm steps.
All the other classmates, including those of Ouyang Huihui’s from high school and her friends, were looking at Luo Ziling as if he were some kind of freak.
Initially, Ouyang Huihui’s high school classmates and friends had looked down on Luo Ziling, especially Li Jiahui—who had a disdainful air when Ouyang Huihui introduced him, reluctant to get to know Luo Ziling. Now she realized that Luo Ziling was not simple at all; many of the wealthy young masters treated him with an unusual attitude, and he even engaged in drinking contests with them.
What’s more, both Ouyang Feifei and Ouyang Huihui seemed to have an uncommon attitude toward Luo Ziling; Li Jiahui felt that both of the Ouyang sisters had a special interest in him.
She wasn’t foolish and sensed that Luo Ziling’s status might be far from ordinary, so she took the initiative to cozy up to him.
But to her surprise, Luo Ziling refused to drink with her.
“When you came in, you scorned getting to know me. Now I scorn drinking with you,” Luo Ziling had already used medication to control the metabolism of alcohol, but the effects were still present, making him more impulsive than usual. Facing Li Jiahui’s proactive approach, he bluntly rejected her.
Li Jiahui’s face flushed red, and she scurried away, embarrassed.
Actually, Li Jiahui was quite beautiful, with a great temperament to match. Describing her as one in ten thousand beauty wasn’t an exaggeration at all. Luo Ziling’s response had stunned Cao Jianhui, Wu Longjiang, Li Fuming, and the other classmates, leaving them speechless.
Yang Qingye had just come over and, seeing Luo Ziling reject Li Jiahui’s advances in such a manner, couldn’t help feeling a bit smug.
“Brother-in-law, you should treat people who try to cozy up to you just like that. I’ll praise you to my sister.” Yang Qingye leaned close to Luo Ziling’s ear and whispered, “I’ve already told my sister about your heroic deed, complete with photos and videos. She told me to keep an eye on you so you don’t get drunk. Check your phone; there should be a reminder.”
After hearing this, Luo Ziling took out his phone and indeed found a message from Yang Qingyin.
Yang Qingyin had asked Luo Ziling not to drink too much and to take care of his health.
She asked him to let her know when the birthday party was over, so they could find a place to meet and she could see if he was drunk.
Luo Ziling promptly replied with a message, agreeing to meet with Yang Qingyin.
“Brother-in-law, your outfit is actually quite nice,” praised Yang Qingye, commenting on Luo Ziling’s attire, “It’s not too conspicuous, and if you caused trouble and had to run away, nobody would remember what you looked like. How safe is that?”
“Are you saying you hope girls will stay away from me because of how I look?” Luo Ziling asked, then let out a loud belch from the alcohol.
Yang Qingye did not deny it but giggled instead: “Isn’t my sister enough for you? Look how beautiful and talented she is. A woman like her is one of a kind in this world. If you miss out on her, you’ll never find another. So, you must cherish her.”
Luo Ziling snorted irritably, “Fine, I’ll have to speak well of you in front of your sister, otherwise I’d be ungrateful for your efforts.”
“You have to bribe this big uncle of yours, right?” Yang Qingye laughed impishly.
He wasn’t good at holding his liquor, and having had several drinks just now, he was a bit loose-tongued.
While Luo Ziling and Yang Qingye were talking, Fang Dongxun, Chen Jiahai, Ling Haining, Ling Haijun, Wu Zhongning, and others asked to leave. After apologizing to Ouyang Feifei and Ouyang Huihui, they left the private room one after another. Most of Ouyang Huihui’s classmates didn’t leave, and Luo Ziling’s group didn’t immediately propose leaving either; Yang Qingye continued to stay and chat by his side.
After those people left, Ouyang Feifei also prepared to depart.
Before she left, she spoke privately with Luo Ziling for a while.
“I’m sure you understand that many people came today with preparation, aiming to deal with you. From what I’ve observed, besides the Ling brothers, the others still don’t know your identity, so today’s incident was very likely orchestrated by the Ling brothers. However, you are much tougher than they imagined, and even your tolerance for alcohol is good. Of course, those people usually fight openly and secretly. Even if they came together, it’s unlikely they would unite against you. If they had worked together, you would have had a rough time today. In the future, you will be their rival, and life won’t be easy for you.”
“It seems like I never have good luck whenever I encounter you sisters,” Luo Ziling said with a smile.
Yet, that comment made Ouyang Feifei’s face turn cold all of a sudden.
